Probate Research & Genealogy Detective Work

Genealogy is the study of families and family history. Probate research is a discipline that seeks to ‘fill in the gaps’ where issues arise in establishing who is entitled to benefit from a deceased person’s estate. We are specialists at finding unknown beneficiaries and have over 20 years experience in this field.

How the System Works

When someone dies the assets that they leave (their estate) have to be disposed of. If there is an uncontested and accepted Will then there are usually no difficulties. Everyone gets what they are entitled to. However, each year many thousands of people die without leaving a Will. Probate is a set of legal rules to identify what those individuals — who are related to the deceased — will get from the estate.

Probate can only work if relatives are still alive and their whereabouts are known. In cases where a person dies (and there are no obvious relatives) the estate will go to the Crown. When such cases occur we can often help. Once you have given us permission to act for you by signing our contract we will complete our research and supply all the necessary certificates and reports needed to prove your entitlement.

  • Someone who may have an entitlement to an estate
  • Someone who may be able to help us identify a person who may have such an entitlement

Costs For The Legal Profession

Fee & Disbursement

An agreed fixed fee, which will vary from case to case, depending on the type and amount of information provided. Although this is exclusive of VAT and disbursements (re-charged at cost), this can be offered on a no-find, no-fee arrangement. Please contact us for a free quotation.

Contingency

We undertake to prove identified beneficiaries’ claims for a percentage share of their entitlement. Beneficiaries would sign our contract and would provide our payment on completion of probate. If no beneficiaries can be found there is no cost to you or the estate, and regardless of our success, you will receive a full report of our findings along with all the necessary documents.
